According to Photorumors retailers have been disappointed with the amount they received for the Canon R1 and many reviewers have been disappointed with its specs. It’s not that the Canon EOS R1 is a bad camera, but generally “flagship” cameras have more wow features, and “flagship” cameras have always started off with strong sales numbers.
The Sony a9/a1, Nikon Z9/Z8, and Fujifilm X100VI/GFX are all examples of cameras that have had large preorder lines with strong sales after launch. Maybe Canon R1 sales will pick up, but it seems unlikely.
