The new Canon RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM video-only aperture ring limitation for photography, will not apply to future camera models

The new video-only aperture ring limitation for photography, introduced with the new Canon RF 35mm f/1.4 L VCM lens, will not apply to future camera models. You will be able to use the feature for still photography on EOS cameras released after June 2024. Here is the report from Gizmodo Japan:

“If you look closely at this lens, you will see an aperture ring at the base of the lens. This is called an ” iris ring .” It is basically used on cinema lenses for video shooting.

This iris ring is useful when shooting video. The iris ring does not have a clicking sensation when you turn it, so you can change the aperture value smoothly when shooting video . If there was a clicking sensation, it could cause blurring when shooting video, so the iris ring is important.

Please note that the ability to change the aperture value with this iris ring when shooting still images will only be available on EOS series cameras released after June 2024. Please note that with the current EOS series, it can only be used for video recording.”
