Voigtlander PORTRAIT HELIAR 75mm f/1.8 RF Coming Soon

Voigtlander PORTRAIT HELIAR 75mm f/1.8 RF: B&H Photo / Amazon

The PORTRAIT HELIAR 75mm F1.8 RF Mount is a large-aperture, medium-telephoto lens compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras that use the Canon RF mount. Focusing on the relationship between spherical aberration and bokeh, it allows you to control overcorrection and undercorrection, resulting in a wide variety of bokeh effects.

Main Features

Designed specifically for the Canon RF mount
Equipped with an optical system optimized for the image sensors of mirrorless cameras using the Canon RF mount, this lens has a full-size image circle and can be used with both full-size and APS-C size mirrorless cameras.

Controlling spherical aberration
It is equipped with a control ring with a new mechanism that increases or decreases the correction of spherical aberration. When the image is over-corrected, the center of focus remains and the background bokeh becomes hard and bubbly. In contrast, when the image is under-corrected, the center of focus becomes soft and flare occurs in the highlights. The background bokeh becomes smoother, allowing for bokeh with an unprecedented range.

Electronic contacts for communication with the body
The lens mount is equipped with electronic contacts, enabling electrical communication between the lens and the body. When combined with a Canon EOS R system body, it supports Exif information, in-body image stabilization (3-axis)*1, and three focus assist functions (magnified display, peaking, and focus guide*2) (*These functions may not function if the control ring is turned too far).

Manual focus for precise focusing
The all-metal helicoid unit is machined and adjusted with high precision, and the use of high-quality grease that generates just the right amount of torque ensures smooth focusing, allowing for subtle focus adjustments.

Beautiful bokeh with 9 aperture blades
A nine-blade aperture is used to make the aperture shape closer to a circle, resulting in natural depiction of out-of-focus areas and soft, rounded bokeh of point light sources rather than polygonal.

*1 Only valid on cameras equipped with in-body image stabilization.
*2 Excluding the EOS RP.

Lens construction

*A Turning the spherical aberration control ring will change the aberration and the focus position, so please adjust the focus after making the adjustment.
*B Turning the spherical aberration control ring will change the F-number (within 1/3EV), so please check the exposure after making the adjustment.
*C Turning the spherical aberration control ring to the under side will reduce peripheral illumination. Please adjust the amount of compensation or retouch the image after shooting.
