Chris and Jordan published their character review video of the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.0 and Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2. There is a summary below of their findings.
Canon R5 with Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton
- Full electric connectivity for EXIF
- Premium manual focus lens
- Butter smooth focus
- Nice click stop
- All metal
- Nice Depth of field scale
- A little smaller and lighter than the 50mm
- 420g or 0.9lbs
- 58mm filter thread
- Not much flare to worry about
- No major ghosting
- Not great for Sunstars but a little better than the 50mm f/1.0
- Great bokeh with cats eye specular highlight that are almost petzval
- Petzval cats eye goes away by f/2 and no soap bubbles or onion rings
- Can be a little polygonal when you stop down
- LoCA is pretty bad wide-open
- Fairly soft wide open with some contrast loss that goes away as you stop down
- There is vignetting in the corners in addition to it being soft and while it sharpens up by f/2.5 there is still vignetting
- You can get character and softness out of this lens without a problem
- Beautiful character that can get razor-sharp and it is well corrected
- Similar bokeh from both lenses
