Canon Patent Application P2026004077 has been found, and it details the optical formulas for three very fast wide-angle prime lenses: a 35mm f/1.2, a 40mm f/1.5, and a 30mm f/1.2.
The RF 35mm f/1.2L USM has been one of the most rumored and requested lenses since the inception of the RF mount. While we have the excellent (and affordable) RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, professional shooters have been waiting for a true L-series successor to the EF 35mm f/1.4L II. This patent suggests Canon is aiming even faster with an f/1.2 aperture, consistent with their strategy of pushing optical limits (like the RF 50mm f/1.2L and RF 85mm f/1.2L).
The 40mm f/1.5 is an interesting oddity—perhaps a “pancake-style” premium lens or a compact L-series option, filling the gap between standard 35mm and 50mm focal lengths.

Example 1: RF 35mm f/1.2
This appears to be the flagship design. An f/1.2 aperture at 35mm would provide incredible subject separation and low-light performance.
- Focal Length: 35.00 mm
- F-number: 1.20
- Half Angle of View: 31.72°
- Image Height: 21.64 mm

Example 2: RF 40mm f/1.5
A slightly longer and slower optic, potentially designed for compactness or a specific rendering character.
- Focal Length: 40.00 mm
- F-number: 1.50
- Half Angle of View: 28.41°
- Image Height: 21.64 mm

Example 3: RF 30mm f/1.2
A wider option that retains the ultra-fast aperture.
- Focal Length: 30.00 mm
- F-number: 1.20
- Half Angle of View: 35.80°
- Image Height: 21.64 mm
Conclusion
As always, a patent application is not a guarantee of a final product, but the persistence of the 35mm f/1.2 in rumors and now patents makes it a very likely candidate for a future release. The 30mm and 40mm designs show Canon is exploring every variation of fast wide-angle primes.
