Canon Patent Application P2026004077: RF 35mm f/1.2, 40mm f/1.5, and 30mm f/1.2 Found


Canon Patent Application P2026004077 has been found, and it details the optical formulas for three very fast wide-angle prime lenses: a 35mm f/1.2, a 40mm f/1.5, and a 30mm f/1.2.
The RF 35mm f/1.2L USM has been one of the most rumored and requested lenses since the inception of the RF mount. While we have the excellent (and affordable) RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, professional shooters have been waiting for a true L-series successor to the EF 35mm f/1.4L II. This patent suggests Canon is aiming even faster with an f/1.2 aperture, consistent with their strategy of pushing optical limits (like the RF 50mm f/1.2L and RF 85mm f/1.2L).

The 40mm f/1.5 is an interesting oddity—perhaps a “pancake-style” premium lens or a compact L-series option, filling the gap between standard 35mm and 50mm focal lengths.
