Canon Memory Card Cooling Patent Might Apply to Canon R1 and Canon R5 Mark II

A Canon is splitting a patent on ipforce for memory card cooling that could be for the Canon R1 and Canon R5 Mark II. Canon could also license the technology to other manufacturers in the future.

However, in the above-mentioned conventional technology, heat generation of the recording media accompanying the mounting of multiple recording media for video shooting was not taken into consideration.

The present invention aims to provide an imaging device and a control method thereof that can extend the video shooting time when mounting multiple recording media and shooting videos in different recording formats.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the imaging device according to claim 1 has a first media slot that accommodates media for recording videos captured by an imaging means, a second media slot that is closer to a grip part for a user to hold than the first media slot, and a control means that issues a warning to a user when a second recording format for recording data with a larger recording capacity than the first recording format for recording videos in the first media slot is set in the second media slot in a setting for simultaneously recording videos in different recording formats in the first media slot and the second media slot.

According to the invention, image data with a larger recording capacity is recorded in a storage medium close to the chassis, and image data with a smaller recording capacity is recorded in a storage medium farther from the chassis. This allows the large amount of heat generated by a storage medium on which image data with a large storage capacity is recorded to be dispersed throughout the entire imaging device via the chassis, thereby extending the possible time for video recording.
